B&Q ‘One Planet Living’ Awards 2008 ( UK ) B&Q has announced that the all-new ‘One Planet Living’ (OPL) Awards for 2008 are now open for applications. The awards give the opportunity for community or charitable organisations such as environmental groups, community organisations, schools, charities or sports clubs across the country to each win between £1,000 and £10,000 worth of B&Q products to help regenerate local areas and will support environment/energy saving, natural habitats/wildlife and local culture/heritage projects. The closing date for applications is the 28th March 2008. Funding for Veterans Day Events 2008 ( UK ) The Ministry of Defence has announced that it is seeking applications from local communities and organisations to host celebrations and events to raise public awareness of Veterans Week. A total of £500,000 is available for events that highlight the contributions of veterans past and present. Veterans Week runs from 23rd – 29th June 2008 and the application deadline is the 30th May 2008

Active Living Fund ( UK )Grants of up to £1,000 are available through the Kelloggs Active Living Fund for projects that remove the “barriers” which stop people being active. The fund is open to charities and other voluntary and community organisations as well as Schools for activities that directly lead to people taking part in sustained physical activity. Applications can be made at any time. Positive Destinations Grants Programme Now Open for Applications (UK) BBC Children in Need and the Hunter Foundation have announced that they are now accepting applications under a new £2 million grants programme to fund innovative and effective projects for the most vulnerable children and young people in the UK. The programme will seek to support projects that target either key points in determining a young person’s future (i.e. pre-school, transition from primary to secondary education and the 14 – 16 year period prior to work or further education). The closing date for applications will be the 30th March 2008.Community Cash Awards ( UK ) The Awards, worth £250 to £5,000, are available to disadvantaged 14 to 25-year-olds who want to transform their area and learn practical skills. Projects must be run and managed by people between the ages of 14 and 25; clearly benefit the local community; benefit the people running the project; and be a new or developing project. Previous projects supported include; an amateur boxing project to give young people greater confidence. Applications can be made at any time.

GRANTS FOR CHARITIES AND VOLUNTARY ORGSGannett Foundation Grants (England, Scotland and Wales) The Gannett Foundation, is inviting applications to supports projects which take a creative approach to education and neighbourhood improvements, economic development, youth development, community problem solving, assistance to disadvantaged people, environmental conservation and cultural enrichment. The grants available range from £1,000 – £5,000 (more may be available for exceptional projects). The closing date for applications is the 20th March 2008.

Cash Back for Communities Scheme Opens for Applications ( Scotland ) Grants will be given to projects from areas of multiple deprivation to fill gaps in provision for young people in those areas. The emphasis is on youth work interventions constructed with and for young people in the in the 10 – 19 age group.. Applications must be with us on or before 25 April 2008. Lloyds TSB Foundations to Receive £37.1 Million in 2008 (UK) The Lloyds TSB Group has announced that the four Lloyds TSB Foundations across the UK will receive £37.1 million this year to fund charities supporting disadvantaged people and community groups across the UK. The independently run Lloyds TSB Foundations form one of the largest grant-making trusts in the UK and have distributed over £330 million since 1987. Funding through the Foundation is primarily made through two grant programmes.

Advice Plus (England)The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has announced that it is now accepting applications for funding through Round 2 of the Advice Plus programme. Earlier this year, in Round One BIG awarded £30 million to 71 advice agencies across England . Organisations funded included Citizens Advice Bureaus, Disability and Welfare Associations, employment organisations, local Law Centres, Age Concern, Refugee and Asylum Advice Centres, etc.   The closing date for applications is the 1st April 2008.Impetus Trust ( UK ) Charities that work with and want to improve the lives of disadvantaged people have the opportunity to apply for funding through the Impetus Trust. The investment package which Impetus offers is flexible but is most likely to be between £150,000- £300,000. Applications can be submitted at any time.

Coalfields Regeneration Trust ( England ) The Coalfields Regeneration Trust in England has announced that it is to get a further three years funding from March 2008 onwards. The Trust provides a variety of grants ranging from £500 through its community chest to help small organisations develop to larger grants of up to £300,000 to bigger voluntary, community and statutory organisations. Funding to Support Community Initiatives ( Scotland ) Small Community based organisations with a project idea that will be of benefit to their local community are able to apply for funding of up to £5,000 to the Scottish Community Foundations. The Scottish Community Foundation provides a range of grants to be eligible, groups need to have an annual income of less than £250,000 and the grant will need to spent within 12 months. Applications can be made at any time. Funding for Community Development ( Wales ) The People and Places programme has £66 million between 2005 and 2009, to fund capital and revenue projects that support co-ordinated action by people to make their communities better places to live. The fund is open to the community, voluntary and public sector. A recent example includes a grant of £56,000 to support a community centre in Carmarthenshire to develop activities that will strengthen community spirit and reduce isolation.
